Updates From ‘Round the Town

August always seems to fly on by in a whirlwind, doesn't it? You might be busy soaking up the last bits of summer bliss before sweater weather settles in. Or you might be stuck in the flurry of seemingly endless back-to-school To-Dos.

Or you might be bouncing between both.

But let's just step out of that whirlwind for a moment or two because I've got several bits of news of note for you:

Community Meetings
Not to add to it or anything, but... there are three community meetings this week that are all worthy of your time if you've got it!

One is for learning about upcoming ballot issues in Copley Township, one is for wrapping up and reviewing this year's Heritage Days, and one is for celebrating successes and discussing future endeavors for the Copley Community Volunteers.

Only one involves pasta and breadsticks, though... I'll let you investigate to figure out which one.

Art Installation
Have you been to the park yet this week? Because OH MY GOODNESS, the 2019 Community Art Project is actually IN THE GROUND!

There are finishing touches yet to come but the official installation has been such a long time coming that it is just SUPER exciting to see this progress. Huge thanks to Greg Tracey, Copley Township's Service Director, and the full Service Department crew for all of their efforts!

Penguin Season Ending
On a sadder note... Penguin Ice Cream broke the news late yesterday that the shop will be closing indefinitely after Thursday night. It seems the staffing shortages were a high hurdle and the return to school made that hurdle even higher.

The catering cart will continue its bookings (yay!) and they hope to reopen when the employment market stabilizes. In the meantime, the shop will be open for its final days from 4:00 to 9:00 on Wednesday and Thursday. Come on out for a scoop or two to show your support and wish them well.

And if you're a Looper Community Subscriber, remember to show your card (either physical or digital) on Thursday for your final "free scoop" Exclusive of the season!

School Supply Drive
August is already more than half over, and so is the Akron Insurance School Supply Drive!

They've been collecting supplies for Christian Children's Home of Ohio (CCHO), a residential treatment facility in Wooster for abused, neglected, and traumatized children. CCHO currently has 65 children who need school supplies for the upcoming year and you can help! Check out the photo below for what they need, where to take it, and by when.
